Yes, music theory is included in all lessons. We teach our pupils note values, how to read music, and scales and how to approach sight-reading. This is important in knowing how to practice effectively.
Music theory for piano covers a range of topics that help pianists understand and interpret the language of music.

It’s important to note that music theory is a vast subject, and pianists often continue to deepen their understanding throughout their musical journey.
Age can be an advantage if you want to learn music theory; some of the finest students are above the age of 30 for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, they have a wealth of life, learning experience and dedication.
What are the benefits of music lessons for kids?
Builds language skills.
Many studies have shown that children who learn to play an instrument become accustomed to various sounds that they would not have acknowledged before. This practice teaches their ears the subtle sounds of language.
It makes them academically stronger.
Links have been found between music lessons and nearly every measure of academic achievement: SAT scores, reading comprehension, and math skills. Music also improves their powers of recall for powerful learning in all subjects.
IQ increases.
Numerous studies have proven that children’s IQs improve because of even a few weeks of music lessons. Brain scan technology indicates that brain activity improves following musical training, and some parts of the brain show greater plasticity.
It teaches discipline.
Music lessons require hours of concentration and patience. Children must persist even when things aren’t going well…an invaluable skill for all areas of life.
It supports muscle development and motor skills.
Children must use their entire bodies to maintain the rhythm when they play. They also must coordinate various movements with their hands at the same time. In doing so, they develop strength and coordination.
It improves social skills.
If children play in a group, they have to learn to work together to achieve a shared goal, exercising tolerance, patience, and encouragement towards their peers.
It makes kids feel good about themselves.
There’s nothing quite like the sense of pride that comes from working on a new skill, especially when the result is beautiful music.
It improves cultural awareness.
By learning music from various parts of the globe, students come to understand these cultures.
It brings happiness & joy.
And the most important reason of all. When children can play music, it makes them happy and everyone else too.
Can I learn to play an instrument within a band setting at your Music School?
Yes, we offer band nights for children and adults – please email Pro Music for the next dates.
Can parents stay with the children?
Parents are very welcome to stay and observe. All tutors are DBS checked and we also safeguard materials on site for parents to read.
What happens if myself or my children can’t attend a lesson?
No problem. Just let Pro Music know by email or phone at 0121 559 3355, and we will reschedule the session. Please give Pro Music 24 hours’ notice so we can juggle the timetable.
Will it help if I already play another instrument?
Yes, it will definitely help. A second instrument is always welcome here at Pro Music; some people even take 2 to 3 instruments per week. We can also discount when pupils want to take another instrument. Please give Pro Music a call. And we can give you advice on which to pick.
For example, playing the piano rather than learning the steel pans would be an easy transition. It’s the same with the electric guitar and bass guitar.
