Encouraging Trial Guitar Session

"My son had his trial guitar lesson earlier with Pj. He had lots of fun, and Pj was amazing. He was so encouraging and gave my son lots of praise. He even bought him some sweets, as it was his birthday, which was a nice thought. You can tell Pj is a great teacher, and we are now booking his guitar lessons with him. The 5-star reviews speak for themselves."

Encouraging and inspiring Guitar Lessons

"I've been learning guitar at Pro Music for several years now, starting as a complete beginner. Thanks to the incredibly knowledgeable teachers and supportive professional staff, I've recently achieved Grade 8, something I never thought possible when I first picked up the instrument. The quality of teaching is consistently high, and the learning environment is both encouraging and inspiring. Highly recommended for anyone serious about their musical journey." Rob Neale

One to one Childrens Guitar Lesson

"My son is thoroughly enjoying his children's guitar lessons and gave us another demonstration this evening. The progress in his technique since he started in October is really impressive, and we can see he is very proud. Only knocked a star off for price really as it's quite a bit more than other after-school activities, but then it is 1-2-1 tuition after all." Rachel Spittles

Childrens Guitar Lessons

"My son started guitar lessons a few months ago with Tom... Then I started to learn the drums!.. I'd always wanted to learn, so at nearly 40 years old, I thought I'd better get a move on! The whole experience has brought my son and me closer together as we have more in common, and music has become a big part of our lives. All of the tutors are kind, friendly and fun - we love being part of the Pro Music family!" Joanne Cresswell

Guitar Teacher - 100% recommend

"I had guitar lessons with Mitch, and they were amazing! I left every lesson feeling like I’d become a better player and had always learned something new each week. He explained things in an easy-to-understand way while also keeping the lessons entertaining. 100% recommend!" Mason

Guitar Teacher

"Our Son has been attending Pro Music for several years. He smashed his A-Level Music performance this year, not only because of his hard work, but also because of the brilliant teaching, guidance and positive support he has received from both his drum teacher (Pro Josh) and his guitar teacher (Pro Tom). Both have helped him to become the confident and competent musician that he is today. As he now moves on to University, we just wanted to say that it’s been a pleasure knowing them both and a big ‘thank you’ for all they have done. We highly recommend Pro Music & its teachers." M Williams

Electric Guitar Lesson

"My 12 year old son has been having electric guitar lessons with Mitch for several months now. I would highly recommend his tuition. He delivers a perfect combination of theory, yet still allows for creativity and is very personable. Harry always practices what he has learnt as soon as he gets home and always looks forward to his next lesson." Jamie Crothers

GUITAR LESSONS FAQS

What is the best age to start children's guitar lessons?

Realistically, most people think that once their child can hold the right size guitar between 5 and 7 years old it may be time to get started. Bear in mind all children are different some may be able to pick up the guitar but not have the concentration to be able to sit long enough to learn. Some might not be able to hold a guitar comfortably but have the concentration. When these two main factors come together you will have a better indication as to whether or not your child is ready.

Before you start spending money on guitars and lessons we will gladly give your child a free taster guitar lesson to see if your child is ready, leave it to us to be able to work out if your child is the right size to be able to hold the appropriately sized guitar, to be able to reach the frets comfortably and more importantly to be able to sit through lessons and pay attention.

How do I know my child is ready to play the guitar?

1. Is your child interested in playing the guitar? If your child shows a real love for guitar-based music whether they have been listening to your favourite rock bands or singer-songwriters and show a real passion for music this is a great sign. You also need to take into consideration if your child is mature enough and interested enough to start learning. The choice of instrument should be left to your child otherwise they will lose interest very quickly.

2. Does your child have the ability to focus for around 30 minutes? Children ( or adults in fact ) do not need longer than a 30-minute lesson each week, if your child can sit for that length of time and take away knowledge from that lesson you’ll be on to a great start.

3. Some say practice makes perfect and quite frankly we agree when starting parents will need to help their children set a practice routine to embed skills learned in each lesson. We aren’t talking hours a day 15 minutes a day is adequate.

4. Most kids have basic finger dexterity. When kids start they won’t have full strength and dexterity but as they practice more and get older this will become stronger and make playing the guitar a lot easier, as your child’s dexterity improves and they can play the songs with ease it will boost their confidence.

5. To start lessons your child needs to have the maturity to sit and listen to their teacher, your teacher, will be fully trained and know how to make learning fun but your child will find practising at home hard if they haven’t listened to their teacher’s instructions.

Which Guitar Style is right for you?

When starting guitar lessons, it can be difficult to know where to start. When they hear the word guitar, a lot of people think of an amazing soloist on stage, but depending on what style of music you are listening to, it will depend on which style of instrument you pick. You’ll often hear the following terms: electric, steel strung acoustic, nylon strung classical, and flats.

1. Electric Guitar:

If you want to be a top guitarist or have been influenced by IG guitarists, then pop, rock, and metal tuition is for you.

A decent electric guitar can be obtained via marketplace or online. Please contact Pro Music for further information; while we do not sell instruments, we understand the difficulty in finding the right ones. We will provide you with a good instrument at no cost. Most pupils will go secondhand and buy a decent guitar with a 10 watt amp.

Guitar Lessons will focus on single notes first of all, which will then turn into open string chords. We always base the learning on songs or bands you already enjoy listening to.

2. Classical Guitar

This style is amazing to play if you have the correct guitar tutor. We have 4 classical guitar tutors/teachers at Pro Music, all with Grade 8 plus diplomas. Most guitarists start off with classical guitar, as it’s a great foundation for reading music and music theory.

3. Acoustic Guitar

The most asked-for instrument is the acoustic guitar. Most singers and composers, like Taylor Swift, use steel-strung acoustic guitars, and some even use smaller-bodied acoustic guitars. In lessons at Pro Music, we will focus mainly on single notes, first making sure the fretted hand is in the correct position, and then onto open chords. Strumming patterns are a major part of this instrument, so some music theory will be taught alongside this section. Again, the above will be taught alongside your favourite songs.

4. Jazz Guitar

Jazz is a very tough style to master and takes years of hard work. We would always recommend going down the electric guitar route first and then switching over to the jazz course that Pro Music offers. Jazz guitar will require a lot of music theory based around chord voicing, scales, modes, and rhythmic practice.

What styles of guitar can I learn at Pro Music Tuition, and which style should I start with?

At Pro Music Tuition, we offer lessons in acoustic, electric, bass guitar, and ukulele. Beginners often start with acoustic guitar, as it builds a strong musical foundation. If you’re drawn to a specific genre, we can help you begin with a style suited to your interests.

What’s the difference between acoustic and electric guitar lessons for beginners?

Acoustic guitar is often recommended for beginners, as it builds finger strength and provides a clear foundation for learning chords and rhythms. Electric guitar offers more flexibility in sound and is easier to press down on, making it ideal for those interested in rock or blues.

Can I learn both guitar and bass guitar at your music centre?

Yes, you can learn both guitar and bass at any of our centres. Many students benefit from learning both, as it enhances their overall musicianship and understanding of rhythm and harmony.

What are the benefits of children's guitar lessons?
  1.  Builds language skills. As they learn their instrument, children become accustomed to different sounds that they would not have acknowledged before. This practice introduces their ears to the subtle sounds of language.
  2. It makes them academically stronger.  Links have been found between music lessons and nearly every measure of educational achievement: SAT scores, reading comprehension, and math skills.
  3.  IQ increase. Numerous studies have confirmed that children’s IQs are enhanced because of even a few weeks of music lessons. Brain scan technology reveals that brain activity improves following musical training, and some parts of the brain even grow.
  4. It teaches discipline.  Music lessons require hours of attention and patience. Children must continue even when things aren’t going well…an invaluable skill for all areas of life.
  5. It supports muscle development and motor skills. Children must use their entire bodies to hold the rhythm when they play. They also must coordinate different movements with their hands at the same time. In doing so, they develop strength and coordination.
  6. It improves social skills. If children play in a group, they have to learn to work together to accomplish a shared goal, exercising tolerance, patience, and encouragement towards their peers.
  7. It makes kids feel good about themselves. There’s nothing quite like the sense of pride that comes from working on a new skill …specifically when the result is beautiful music.
  8. Understand musical culture. By learning music from various parts of the globe, students come to understand these cultures.
  9. Happiness. And the most meaningful reason of all. When children or adults can play music, it makes them happy.
Do you Teach adults to play Guitar?

Absolutely – adults are very welcome at Pro Music Tuition. Whether you’re starting from scratch or returning to the guitar after a break, our expert tutors will help you learn with confidence and enjoyment.

We believe it’s never too late to learn an instrument. Many parents are inspired by their children’s progress and decide to start lessons themselves. Before long, what began as a child’s hobby becomes a shared passion that brings the whole family together.

Our adult guitar lessons are tailored to suit your pace, goals, and musical taste. With flexible lesson times and online options available, learning has never been easier to fit around your lifestyle.

Am I Too Old to Learn Guitar?

Not at all. You’re never too old to learn guitar.

Learning guitar as an adult offers many benefits. It’s a great way to stay mentally sharp, reduce stress, and tap into your creativity. Research shows that adults can still develop new skills, thanks to a brain function called neuroplasticity – which means your brain continues forming new pathways, no matter your age.

At Pro Music, we’ve helped many adult learners start their musical journey later in life – and succeed. Our experienced, DBS-checked tutors create a relaxed, supportive environment where you can progress at your own speed.

Whether you want to play your favourite songs, jam with friends, or simply enjoy a new hobby, we’ll help you every step of the way.

How many Guitar Lessons would you recommend in a week?

For most students, one guitar lesson per week is ideal. This gives you enough time to practice, apply feedback, and build solid habits—like proper posture, hand position, and technique.

Weekly guitar lessons also ensure consistent progress without letting too much time pass between sessions. Regular feedback helps you avoid developing bad habits and keeps your motivation high.

If you’re a more advanced player or you’re preparing for a graded exam or performance, you might benefit from two lessons a week. This allows for more in-depth guidance, faster progress, and fine-tuning of your playing. That said, one well-focused lesson a week still works brilliantly for most.

At Pro Music Tuition, we tailor your guitar lesson schedule to your goals and lifestyle—whether you’re learning for fun or working towards professional grades.
