We’re known for high standards, experienced tutors and a structured approach that supports real progress. With a wealth of experience, we can provide saxophone lessons for children and adults of all skill levels.

Kids Saxophone Lessons

For beginners, we start with learning simple songs whilst also teaching scales and the basics of music theory using the Pro Music Tuition iPads. By building a solid base of musical knowledge, pupils can progress to taking exams if they wish and learn concepts that will be useful for the saxophone and beyond.

Whatever the age and whether learning through group or individual tuition, we offer to train pupils for exams. Working towards a goal like this can help teach children to focus, and the sense of achievement when passing grades is always a thrill. We work with several different syllabuses, including ABRSMTrinity and Rockschool. If you have previously learned pieces for an exam elsewhere, we can provide the exam for you (excluding ABRSM).

Adult Saxophone Lessons in the West Midlands

At Pro Music, we extend a warm welcome to adults eager to embark on the journey of learning to play the Saxophone. Our belief is simple: age is no barrier when it comes to embracing the joy of music. Whether you’re just starting or seeking to refine your skills, our doors are open to all who possess the passion and commitment to practice.

Engaging in the pursuit of a new skill as an adult not only keeps the mind agile but also has been shown to stave off cognitive decline. The phenomenon of neuroplasticity underscores the brain’s remarkable ability to adapt and form new neural pathways throughout life.

Group Saxophone Lessons

We offer individual and group saxophone lessons. Individual saxophone lessons last for 30 or 60 minutes, and each session is tailored to suit the ability level of each student. Group saxophone lessons last for 60 minutes and allow students to learn songs with others, often fast-tracking learning and helping build confidence in young pupils.

Music Lesson Testimonials

Emma Rushton

"My son has been attending Pro Music for 2 years and I can honestly say I would not go anywhere else. The tutors are fantastic, especially Tom. If you are trying to get your kids off the consoles into another positive interest, this is the place to go, they do a huge range of instruments so will definitely find something they are into. I also know older teens and adults who go to Pro Music for various different things including singing lessons and the feedback is excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone!" Emma Rushton

Karen Winmill

"Wow this music school is fantastic, my son has been having drum lessons with Andy, and I have to say he is amazing, so friendly, professional, and very patient, he's more like family because he has made my son feel relaxed and brought him out his shell. All through lockdown, he has continued to give him advice and carry on with his lesson online, he has just taken his grade 3." Karen Winmill

Rachel Cunningham-Day

"My children have lessons with Tom and Robin for piano and Andy for bass and they all REALLY enjoy their lessons. The teachers have a love for their music, they tailor their lessons for the children, they treat them as intelligent human beings, they also are very helpful and informative to parents. I cannot praise them enough :-)" Rachel Cunningham-Day

Sabeen Khalid

"Laura who is the piano teacher at Pro Music Cradley is amazing. My daughter had started taking piano lessons from her since last September and what a success that has been. My D who is 4 years old has learned so much. Laura not only teaches the child to play the piano but the way she teaches it is amazing. Her lessons are engaging and playful enough for a child that they remember and learn and built from there. Would highly recommend her." Sabeen Khalid

Louise Mills

"My daughter has been having lessons here now for over a year. It's a great music school. Leeming is her teacher and she is just fantastic, so friendly and helpful. The lessons are always fun, and she always keeps her engaged. She's always willing to accommodate wherever she can. My daughter started as a beginner, and she has gone from strength to strength. She really looks forward to her lesson every week. I would highly recommend it to anyone!" Louise Mills

Faye Darby

"My daughter has been having keyboard lessons for a year now. In this time I have seen her grow greatly in confidence and ability. Leeming has been absolutely wonderful in supporting her and teaching her. Would 100% recommend pro music and Leeming to anybody who wants to learn to play the keyboard.!"  Faye Darby

Darren Cowley

"Li Ming. The piano teacher is a wonderful, kind teacher. My son loves going to class and gets fully engaged, he loves practising new pieces and (if he could) be learning all day." Darren Cowley

Kate Holland

"My son and daughter have both had lessons at ProMusic for about 3 years now and both have come on leaps and bounds! My daughter recently did her grade 2 piano with Leeming Hoey and got a Merit! She loves her lessons with Lee, she's so friendly and encouraging and has built up a great relationship with my daughter. My daughter really enjoys coming to her lessons.
My son has guitar lessons with Dave Phillips and he's about to do his grade 2 exam also. His confidence has grown massively, as well as his willingness to practice at home, something we've always struggled with. He's even recently joined a guitar ensemble at school. Both teachers are great, and I'm a very proud mum that both are doing so well 😁" Kate Holland

What are the benefits of saxophone lessons for kids?

Saxophone lessons can help children build confidence, focus and coordination, while giving them a creative skill that brings real enjoyment. Many parents also love how music supports wider development like discipline, social skills and feeling proud of their progress.

Other Benefits of music lessons include:

  • Builds language skills.
Many studies have shown that children who learn to play an instrument become accustomed to various sounds that they would not have acknowledged before. This practice teaches their ears the subtle sounds of language.
  • It makes them academically stronger.
Links have been found between music lessons and nearly every measure of academic achievement: SAT scores, reading comprehension, and math skills. Music also improves their powers of recall for powerful learning in all subjects.
  • IQ increase.
Numerous studies have proven that children’s IQs improve because of even a few weeks of music lessons. Brain scan technology indicates that brain activity improves following musical training, and some parts of the brain show greater plasticity.
  • It teaches discipline.
Music lessons require hours of concentration and patience. Children must persist even when things aren’t going well…an invaluable skill for all areas of life.
  • It supports muscle development and motor skills.
Children must use their entire bodies to maintain the rhythm when they play. They also must coordinate various movements with their hands at the same time. In doing so, they develop strength and coordination.
  • It improves social skills.
If children play in a group, they have to learn to work together to achieve a shared goal, exercising tolerance, patience, and encouragement towards their peers.
  • It makes kids feel good about themselves.
There’s nothing quite like the sense of pride that comes from working on a new skill, especially when the result is beautiful music.
  • It improves cultural awareness.
By learning music from various parts of the globe, students come to understand these cultures.
  • It brings happiness & joy.
And the most important reason of all. When children can play music, it makes them happy and everyone else too.
Can I learn saxophone in a band setting?

Yes. We offer band nights for children of all ages and abilities, so pupils can learn how to play with others in a fun, supportive band environment. If you’d like details, just email us, and we’ll point you in the right direction.

For more information on our upcoming band nights and how to get involved, please don't hesitate to email us at Pro Music.

What will I learn first on the saxophone?

We’ll start with the essentials so you feel confident straight away: posture, hand position, getting a clear sound, basic notes, simple songs and rhythm. From there, we build up your technique, scales and reading in a structured way.

Which saxophone is best for beginners: alto or tenor?

Most beginners start on the alto saxophone. It’s a popular first choice, and we can help you decide what’s best based on age, comfort and the style of music you’d like to play.

How much practice do I need between saxophone lessons?

A little practice done regularly is usually far more effective than one long session. We’ll show you exactly what to work on between lessons so you keep progressing without it feeling overwhelming.

Can parents stay during the saxophone lesson?

Yes. Parents are very welcome to stay and observe. We also take safeguarding seriously, with DBS checks for tutors and safeguarding materials available on-site. Ensuring a safe and secure learning environment for your child. Additionally, we provide safeguarding materials on-site for parents to peruse, offering further peace of mind.
