Violin teaching is great

Chloe’s teaching is great; she is very clear in explaining, and the lessons are very engaging. My son loves every minute of the lesson, and I am also learning a great deal by just watching him learn. If you are looking for piano or violin lessons for your kid or for yourself, don’t look any further. Contact Pro Music and ask for Chloe

Birmingham Violin Lesson FAQs

At what age should my child start violin lessons?

Most children begin violin lessons at our Birmingham music centre around the age of 5, though some start as young as 3. Because violins come in fractional sizes, from a tiny 1/16 right up to full size, we can always match the instrument to your child’s height and reach. The best way to find out if your child is ready is to book a taster session at our Rubery music centre, where one of our experienced violin teachers will assess them in a relaxed and friendly setting.

How much should I practise the violin each day?

For adult learners, 30 minutes to an hour a day is ideal for steady progress, though even 15 focused minutes makes a real difference on a busy day. For children, we recommend around 15 minutes of daily practise, building to 30 to 45 minutes when preparing for a grade exam.

With the violin in particular, short and regular practise always beats long and occasional. Intonation and bow control develop through consistent repetition, qualities that simply cannot be rushed in a single marathon session.

What type of violin should I buy as a beginner?

Choosing your first violin can feel overwhelming, but it does not need to be expensive. Our Birmingham violin teachers recommend starting with a quality budget instrument such as a Windsor, which delivers a solid tone and comfortable playability up to around Grade 5. Before you buy anything, speak to us first. Getting the right size for your hand and height makes a significant difference to your progress, and we can provide an instrument during lessons while you find your feet.

Ask our Birmingham violin teachers for advice

Do you teach adults in Birmingham to play the violin?

Absolutely. Birmingham is home to a thriving community of adult learners at Pro Music Tuition, and some of our most dedicated violin students came to us with no prior experience whatsoever. Age is no barrier to learning the violin. Research into neuroplasticity shows the brain continues forming new connections throughout life, and many adults find that committing to regular practise brings real cognitive benefits alongside the sheer enjoyment of making music. Whether you want to play for pleasure, join an ensemble or work towards formal grades, we will build your lessons entirely around what matters to you.

Do you offer online violin lessons in Birmingham?

Yes. If getting to our Birmingham music centre is not always practical, we deliver live online violin lessons via Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp and Facebook to the same standard as our in-person teaching. Online lessons remove the need to travel, open up far more flexible scheduling and work well for violin students of all ages and abilities. Many of our Birmingham students mix in-person and online lessons week to week, depending on their schedule.

Do your students get an opportunity to perform?

Yes. Pro Music Tuition Birmingham holds three showcases every year, each featuring four to five concerts across the evening. Students of all levels are welcome to take part, from those just a few months into their violin journey through to our most advanced players. With audiences of 400 to 500 people, our showcases are a highlight of the Pro Music calendar and a fantastic opportunity for Birmingham violin students to experience the thrill of live performance in a warm and supportive setting.

Do you offer violin exam preparation in Birmingham?

Yes. We prepare Birmingham violin students for graded examinations with ABRSM, Trinity and RSL Rockschool, building the syllabus into lessons at a pace that suits each student. That said, exams are entirely optional. A great many of our Birmingham students learn purely for the love of playing, and we are just as happy structuring lessons around the music they want to play as we are working towards formal qualifications.
