Do you teach adult classes to learn the Violin?

Yes, at Pro Music, we teach children and adults; most parents like to start learning with their children as it is an activity they can enjoy together. We also teach over 300 adults without children who have always had the desire to learn and feel it’s now time to do something they have always wanted. Anyone can learn to play the violin at any age; it has nothing to do with age and everything to do with the pupil’s mindset.

Learning a new talent, regardless of what it is, involves desire, discipline, and determination; and learning violin is no different. It is a great way to keep the mind active and young, studies have shown that it can even prevent cognitive decline as we age. Thanks to something called neuroplasticity, your brain can create new pathways and neurons at any age. So while it’s true that children and young adults will pick up new skills faster, adults of any age can enjoy the multiple benefits of learning an instrument.

Is practising the violin for 1 hour a day enough?

For most learners, yes—an hour a day is a great goal. But how much practice you need depends on your level and goals.

Adults:
Many adult learners juggle busy lives, so finding even 15 minutes can be a challenge. But to make steady progress, we recommend aiming for 1–2 hours a day. Even 30 focused minutes is better than none. The key is consistency—regular, mindful Violin practice adds up quickly.

Children:
Younger Violin students tend to pick things up faster. For beginners, 15 minutes daily is a solid start. If your child is preparing for a violin exam, 30–45 minutes a day will help build confidence and technique. As always, it’s quality over quantity.

At Pro Music Tuition, we guide students of all ages through a personalised practice plan, so every minute counts. Whether you’re learning for fun or working towards grades, our experienced tutors will help you stay motivated and on track.

What type of violin should I buy as a beginner?

For beginners, we recommend starting with a Windsor violin. It’s a great budget-friendly choice that offers excellent value without compromising on tone or playability. Windsor violins are well-suited for students working up to Grade 5 and provide a smooth, enjoyable learning experience.

These violins are designed with comfort in mind, making them ideal for children and adults who are just starting. The body is beautifully crafted, with ebony-style fittings that give it a classic look and feel. More importantly, it’s made from quality materials that help new players build confidence from the very first lesson.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or returning to the instrument, the Windsor violin is a smart, reliable option for starting your musical journey. It’s perfect for home practice, lessons, and school performances.

What are the benefits of music lessons for kids?

Builds language skills.

As they learn their instrument, children become accustomed to various sounds they would not have acknowledged before. This practice teaches their ears the subtle sounds of language.

It makes them academically stronger.

Links have been found between music lessons and nearly every measure of academic achievement: SAT scores, reading comprehension, and math skills. Music also improves their powers of recall for powerful learning in all subjects.

IQ increase

Numerous studies have proven that children’s IQs improve after even a few weeks of music lessons. Brain scan technology indicates that brain activity improves following musical training, and some areas of the brain even grow.

It teaches discipline.

Music lessons require hours of concentration and patience. Children must persist even when things aren’t going well, an invaluable skill for all areas of life.

It supports muscle development and motor skills.

Children must use their entire bodies to maintain the rhythm when they play. They also must coordinate various movements with their hands at the same time. In doing so, they develop strength and coordination.

It improves social skills.

If children play in a group, they have to learn to work together to achieve a shared goal, exercising tolerance, patience, and encouragement towards their peers.

It makes kids feel good about themselves.

There’s nothing quite like the sense of pride that comes from working on a new skill, especially when the result is beautiful music.

It helps kids understand the culture.

By learning music from various parts of the globe, students come to understand these cultures.

It brings happiness.

And the most important reason of all. When children can play music, it makes them happy, and everyone else too.

Do your students get an opportunity to perform?

Yes! At Pro Music Tuition, we believe that performing is a key part of learning. That’s why we host three exciting showcases every year.

Each event features 4 to 5 concerts, giving our students—beginners to advanced—the chance to take the stage and shine. These performances are open to all levels and are designed to build confidence and celebrate progress.

Our showcases are always a highlight, drawing audiences of 400–500 people. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to experience live performance in a friendly, supportive setting. Whether it’s your first time playing or your fiftieth, you’ll be part of a vibrant musical community that loves to celebrate talent.

Violin Lesson Testimonials

"Highly recommend Chloe as a violin teacher. Patient, friendly and knowledgeable. My daughter looks forward to her weekly Violin lesson."

Louise O

"As an adult learner who used to play the Violin as a child, I found Gemma to be an excellent violin teacher who understands my aspirations, current skills and potential. She plays the violin as I have never heard before - very lively and soothing. She also teaches cello and piano, and what impressed me is the piano accompaniment she does with me when I play any violin piece. She assessed me as playing at grade 3 (Trinity School Music), and I am going to put everything I learned into practice every day. Thank you so much, Gemma, at Pro Music Sutton Coldfield"

Clare

"My 6-year-old has been taking violin lessons with Gemma for almost 2 months now, and I’m pleased with the progress she’s made in such a short time. Gemma’s violin lessons are relaxed but engaging and tend to follow the child’s lead, which keeps my daughter interested and enjoying her lessons. We both look forward to the lesson each week, and I would recommend Pro Music Boldmere to anyone considering music lessons."

Emma Kelly

"I and my 6-year-old daughter have recently started having lessons together; she is learning the piano, and I'm returning to the violin. Tom was great and super efficient from our first enquiry; he got us booked straight away on the day and time that we needed. Our instructor Lily teaches us both in one lesson. She is amazing, so kind and encouraging! Excited to be having music lessons and can't wait to see our progress. Thanks again!!"

S Cat

"My kids had their first online violin and piano lesson through Zoom last Thursday, and they had a great time with Sophie. She's brilliant, patient and a very good teacher. I recommend her and, of course, Pro Music. "
