We teach children’s violin lessons from the age of 5 and up. As well as playing popular songs, we also teach music theory and scales in order to provide a well-rounded education. We tailor the lesson programme to suit the skill level and aims of each individual child. If pupils want to work towards exams, this is also an option, as well as playing in our live showcases that take place three times a year.

We offer to train pupils for exams regardless of age and whether learning through group or individual violin tuition. Working towards a goal like this can help teach children to focus, and the sense of achievement when passing grades is always a thrill. We work with several different syllabuses, including ABRSMTrinity and Rockschool. If you have previously learned pieces for an exam elsewhere, we can provide the exam for you (excluding ABRSM).

Do you teach adult classes to learn the Violin?

Yes, at Pro Music, we teach children and adults; most parents like to start learning with their children as it is an activity they can enjoy together. We also teach over 300 adults without children who have always had the desire to learn and feel it’s now time to do something they have always wanted. Anyone can learn to play the violin at any age; it has nothing to do with age and everything to do with the pupil’s mindset.

Learning a new talent, regardless of what it is, involves desire, discipline, and determination; and learning violin is no different. It is a great way to keep the mind active and young, studies have shown that it can even prevent cognitive decline as we age. Thanks to something called neuroplasticity, your brain can create new pathways and neurons at any age. So while it’s true that children and young adults will pick up new skills faster, adults of any age can enjoy the multiple benefits of learning an instrument.

Is practising the violin for 1 hour a day enough?

Amateur Adult: 1-2 hours daily. Many adult amateurs are extremely busy individuals who struggle to find even 15 minutes a day to practise! But in order to advance at a satisfying pace and get the most out of their piano study, an adult amateur student will ideally be able to dedicate at least an hour a day to practising.

Children: Again, there will be a direct correlation between time spent practising and advancement. Children and younger adults have the advantage of being able to learn faster, but we recommend 15 minutes a day of practice, or 30 to 45 if sitting exams.

What type of violin should I buy as a beginner?

Windsor violins are the best budget violins, as they’re affordable but still have a good enough tone for beginner and intermediate violinists. Designed for a comfortable learning experience, the Windsor violin is a quality beginner instrument perfect for students, and enthusiasts alike suited for up to grade 5. Its beautifully crafted body with ebony style features not only makes the Windsor violin a classically elegant instrument and a great addition to any musician’s musical collection but gives the player confidence through quality materials allowing easy learning.

What are the benefits of music lessons for kids?

Builds language skills.

As they learn their instrument, children become accustomed to various sounds they would not have acknowledged before. This practice teaches their ears the subtle sounds of language.

It makes them academically stronger.

Links have been found between music lessons and nearly every measure of academic achievement: SAT scores, reading comprehension, and math skills. Music also improves their powers of recall for powerful learning in all subjects.

IQ increase

Numerous studies have proven that children’s IQs improve after even a few weeks of music lessons. Brain scan technology indicates that brain activity improves following musical training, and some areas of the brain even grow.

It teaches discipline.

Music lessons require hours of concentration and patience. Children must persist even when things aren’t going well, an invaluable skill for all areas of life.

It supports muscle development and motor skills.

Children must use their entire bodies to maintain the rhythm when they play. They also must coordinate various movements with their hands at the same time. In doing so, they develop strength and coordination.

It improves social skills.

If children play in a group, they have to learn to work together to achieve a shared goal, exercising tolerance, patience, and encouragement towards their peers.

It makes kids feel good about themselves.

There’s nothing quite like the sense of pride that comes from working on a new skill, especially when the result is beautiful music.

It helps kids understand the culture.

By learning music from various parts of the globe, students come to understand these cultures.

It brings happiness.

And the most important reason of all. When children can play music, it makes them happy, and everyone else too.

Do your students get an opportunity to perform?

Yes, we hold three showcases per year. There are 4 to 5 concerts which involve many musicians of all levels who simply want to perform effectively. We roughly have about 400 to 500 in the audience and is always an enjoyable evening.

VIOLIN LESSON TESTIMONIALS

"Highly recommend Chloe as a violin teacher. Patient, friendly and knowledgeable. My daughter looks forward to her weekly lesson."

Louise O

"As an adult learner who used to play the Violin as a child, I found Gemma to be an excellent violin teacher who understands my aspirations, current skills and potential. She plays the violin like I have never heard before - very lively and soothing. She also teaches cello and piano, and what impressed me is the piano accompaniment she does with me when I play any violin piece. She assessed me as playing at grade 3 (Trinity School Music), and I am going to put everything I learned into practice every day. Thank you so much, Gemma at Pro Music Sutton Coldfield"

Clare

"My 6 year old has been taking violin lessons with Gemma for almost 2 months now, and I’m really pleased with the progress she’s made in such a short time. Gemma’s violin lessons are relaxed but engaging and tend to follow the child’s lead, which keeps my daughter interested and enjoying her violin lesson. We both look forward to the lesson each week, and I would recommend Pro Music Boldmere to anyone considering music lessons."

Emma Kelly

"I and my 6-year-old daughter have recently started having lessons together; she is learning the piano, and I'm returning to the violin. Tom was great and super efficient from our first enquiry; he got us booked in straight away on the day and time that we needed. Our instructor Lily, teaches us both in one lesson. She is amazing, so kind and encouraging! Excited to be having music lessons and can't wait to see our progress 🙂 Thanks again!!"

S Cat

"My kids had their first online violin lesson and piano lesson through Zoom last Thursday, and they had a great time with Sophie. She's brilliant, patient and a very good teacher. I really recommend her and, of course, Pro Music. "

Dhenzmarj Fernando

"Amazing violin lessons with Chenille! As an adult beginner, I was apprehensive, but Chenille put me at ease straight away with her friendly and gentle manner! She is targeting the violin lessons to my needs, and my progress is swift. I highly, highly recommend it. Feels like I have made a friend as well as gained a great tutor!"
