Online Saxophone Lessons at Pro Music
Online saxophone lessons with Pro Music start the same way an in-person lesson would: checking your reed, assembling the instrument and warming up, with your tutor guiding you through video instead of standing beside you. All of our tutors are DBS-checked, whether you’re picking up a saxophone for the first time or working towards your next grade.
Saxophone lessons online suit pupils who cannot easily reach one of our music schools, whether that’s down to distance, a busy family diary or simply a preference for learning at home. It’s a genuine alternative to face-to-face tuition rather than a lesser version of it, and many pupils move between the two as their circumstances change. Group bookings for siblings or friends learning together can also be arranged online, in the same way as in person.

Saxophone Online Lesson FAQs
Are online saxophone lessons as effective as learning in person?
For most pupils, yes. Saxophone relies on posture, hand position, breath support and embouchure, and all of these are visible on screen once your camera is angled correctly. Your tutor can hear tone quality and pitch clearly through your microphone and can talk you through small adjustments in real time. Some pupils prefer the in-person feel of a shared space, particularly younger beginners, so it is worth trying a saxophone lesson online and deciding from there.
What do I need to get started with online saxophone lessons?
You will need a laptop, tablet or smartphone with a working camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp or Facebook set up and ready to go. You will also need access to a saxophone from your first lesson, whether your own instrument or one you have hired locally, as your tutor will want to hear you play early on.
How should I set up my camera and microphone for saxophone lessons?
Angle your camera so your tutor can see your hands, posture and the mouthpiece clearly, ideally from the side rather than straight on. Saxophone is a naturally loud instrument, so sit a little further from your microphone than you might for a quieter instrument. Turning off automatic volume adjustment and background noise suppression will stop the software from muting or distorting your playing.
What age can my child start online saxophone lessons?
We generally recommend age 8 and above for saxophone, as pupils need enough hand size and breath control to manage the instrument comfortably, though this varies from child to child. Adults are welcome to start at any age.
How do you keep children safe during online saxophone lessons?
All of our tutors are DBS-checked, and lessons take place over video call, with a parent or guardian able to be present or nearby throughout. We ask that a responsible adult is aware of when each online lesson is taking place, particularly for younger pupils.
How long are online saxophone lessons and how often do we need them?
Online saxophone lessons run for 30, 60 or 90 minutes, depending on age, ability and how much your embouchure and breath control can comfortably manage in one sitting. Weekly lessons work best for steady progress. We ask for 24 hours’ notice if you need to rearrange a lesson.
How much do online saxophone lessons cost?
Prices depend on lesson length and are the same whether you learn online or in person. The first lesson is free for children under 15, so you can try an online saxophone lesson with your tutor before deciding whether it is the right fit.

Do you teach complete beginners saxophone online?
Yes. Many of our online pupils are picking up the saxophone for the very first time, and lessons start with the basics: assembling the instrument, getting a clear first sound, posture and simple notes, before building up to scales, reading music and short pieces.
