CHILDRENS MUSIC LESSONS RUBERY

For younger children, we use music theory apps on iPads in the Pro Music Tuition studios to teach the building blocks of how music works. This ensures that even from an early age, our pupils are learning in a way that prepares them for more complicated pieces and taking exams and grades as they progress with their chosen instrument.

For children with special educational needs, we offer one-to-one tuition that allows the pupil to have their teacher’s full focus and ensures they can enjoy learning an instrument without any other distractions.

Whatever the age and whether learning through group or individual tuition, we offer to train pupils for exams. Working towards a goal like this can help teach children to focus, and the sense of achievement when passing grades is always a thrill. We work with several different syllabuses, including ABRSM, Trinity and Rockschool. If you have previously learned pieces for an exam elsewhere, we can provide the exam for you (excluding ABRSM).

MUSIC LESSON REVIEWS

"My son has been attending Pro Music's Kids Music Lessons for 2 years, and I can honestly say I would not go anywhere else. The tutors are fantastic, especially Tom. If you are trying to get your kids off the consoles and into another positive interest, this is the place to go; they do a huge range of instruments, so you will find something they are into. I also know older teens and adults who go to Pro Music for various things, including singing lessons, and the feedback is excellent. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Emma Rushton

"Wow, this music school is fantastic. My son has been having drum lessons with Andy, and I have to say he is amazing, so friendly, professional, and very patient. He's more like family because he has made my son feel relaxed and brought him out of his shell. All through lockdown, he has continued to give him advice and carry on with his music lessons online, and he has just taken his grade 3.

Karen Winmill

"My children have lessons with Tom and Robin for piano lessons and Andy for bass guitar lessons, and they all REALLY enjoy their lessons. The teachers have a love for their music, they tailor their lessons for the children, they treat them as intelligent human beings, and they are also very helpful and informative to parents. I cannot praise them enough :-)"

Rachel Cunningham-Day

"Laura, who is the piano teacher at Pro Music, Cradley Heath, is amazing. My daughter had started taking piano lessons last September, and what a success that has been. My Daughter, who is 4 years old, has learned so much. Laura not only teaches the child to play the piano, but the way she teaches it is amazing. Her lessons are engaging and playful enough for a child that they remember and learn, and are built from there. Would highly recommend her."

Sabeen Khalid

"My daughter has been having kids' music lessons here now for over a year. It's a great music school. Leeming is her teacher, and she is just fantastic, so friendly and helpful. The lessons are always fun, and she always keeps herself engaged. She's always willing to accommodate wherever she can. My daughter started as a beginner, and she has gone from strength to strength. She looks forward to her music lesson every week. I would highly recommend it to anyone!"

Louise Mills

"My daughter has been having keyboard lessons for a year now. In this time, I have seen her grow greatly in confidence and ability. Leeming has been wonderful in supporting her and teaching her. Would 100% recommend Pro Music and Leeming to anybody who wants to learn to play the keyboard!

Faye Darby

"Li Ming. The piano teacher is a wonderful, kind kids' music teacher. My son loves going to class and gets fully engaged, he loves practising new pieces and (if he could) would be learning all day."

Darren Cowley

"My son and daughter have both had kids' music lessons at ProMusic for about 3 years now, and both have come on leaps and bounds! My daughter recently did her grade 2 piano with Leeming Hoey and got a Merit! She loves her piano lessons with Lee; she's so friendly and encouraging and has built up a great relationship with my daughter. My daughter enjoys coming to her lessons.
My son has guitar lessons with Dave Phillips, and he's about to do his grade 2 exam too. His confidence has grown massively, as well as his willingness to practice at home, something we've always struggled with. He's even recently joined a guitar ensemble at school. Both teachers are great, and I'm a very proud mum that both are doing so well"

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need an instrument ?

No, we can provide everything for the music lessons and also resources for learning with too.

The first music lesson is free ?

Absolutely! At PRO Music School in Rubery, UK, we believe in the importance of finding the perfect fit when it comes to music lessons. Whether you’re interested in piano, guitar, drums, or any other instrument on our roster, we want to ensure you have the opportunity to explore and discover what resonates with you.

The taster sessions are designed to provide a glimpse into the exciting world of music education, allowing prospective students to experience our teaching style, interact with our instructors, and get a feel for the instrument of their choice. So, yes, for kids under 15, their first music lesson is indeed free, and we go above and beyond to extend this offer across multiple instruments, ensuring they find the perfect match for your musical journey.

Do pupils learn to read music ?

Yes, music theory is included in all lessons. We teach our pupils note values, how to read music, scales and how to approach sight-reading. This is important in knowing how to practice effectively. Tutors will also demonstrate which websites to use to brush up and improve on your music theory reading. With an electric guitar, it would be TAB; with a classical guitar, it would be treble clef reading. We have over 900 pupils per week attending our premises. We start with adults, from novices or can take over from other existing teachers/music schools. We can start with gradings or leisure play. Pro Music is very flexible with the times. We have many slots to suit adults who work shiftwork/home, or even 9-to-5.

What are the benefits of music lessons for kids?

Builds language skills.
Many studies have shown that children who learn to play an instrument, become accustomed to various sounds that they would not have acknowledged before. This practice teaches their ears the subtle sounds of language.

It makes them academically stronger.
Links have been found between music lessons and nearly every measure of academic achievement: SAT scores, reading comprehension, and math skills. Music also improves their powers of recall for powerful learning in all subjects.

IQ increase.
Numerous studies have proven that children’s IQs improve because of even a few weeks of music lessons. Brain scan technology indicates that brain activity improves following musical training, and some parts of the brain show greater plasticity.

It teaches discipline.
Music lessons require hours of concentration and patience. Children must persist even when things aren’t going well…an invaluable skill for all areas of life.

It supports muscle development and motor skills.
Children must use their entire bodies to maintain the rhythm when they play. They also must coordinate various movements with their hands at the same time. In doing so, they develop strength and coordination.

It improves social skills.
If children play in a group, they have to learn to work together to achieve a shared goal, exercising tolerance, patience, and encouragement towards their peers.

It makes kids feel good about themselves.
There’s nothing quite like the sense of pride that comes from working on a new skill, especially when the result is beautiful music.

It improves cultural awareness.
By learning music from various parts of the globe, students come to understand these cultures.

It brings happiness & joy.
And the most important reason of all. When children can play music, it makes them happy and everyone else too.

Can I learn to play an instrument within a band setting ?

Yes, we offer band nights for children and adults – please email Pro Music for the next dates.

Can parents stay with the children ?

Parents are very welcome to stay and observe. All tutors are DBS checked and we also safeguard materials on site for parents to read.

What happens if myself or my children can’t attend a lesson?

No problem, just let Pro Music know by email or phone at 0121 559 3355, and we will reschedule the session. Please give Pro Music 24 hours’ notice so we can juggle the timetable.

Will it help if I already play another instrument?

Yes, it will definitely help. A second instrument is always welcomed here at Pro Music; some people even take 2 to 3 instruments per week. We can also discount when pupils want to take another instrument. Please give Pro Music a call, and we can give you advice on which to pick.

For example, playing the piano and then learning to play the steel pans would be an easy transition. Same with electric guitar to bass guitar.
